Adding your personal computer to the Centre workgroup

If you want to access campus file server resources using Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) paths from your personal computer you may need to add your computer to the Centre workgroup. An example of a UNC path would be \\jupiter\staff\firstlast.lastname to access your server space if you were a staff member.

If your machine is a Centre provided unit you do not need to do these steps to use UNC paths.

To add your machine to the workgroup just follow the steps below.

* Right click on My Computer and choose Properties
* From the System Properties box click the Computer Name tab
* Click the Change... button
* select the Workgroup: radio button and enter centre in the field
* Cick OK twice
* You may need to restart your machine.
