Installing Symantec antivirus

Notes

  1. This software is for use only by Centre and student owned machines. Our license does NOT include personal computers of faculty or staff and this software should not be installed on those machines. If you have a Centre owned machine Symantec should already have been installed by ITS, if not please enter a Helpdesk call and ITS will correct the problem.
  2. Before you install Symantec Antivirus, you MUST uninstall any antivirus program you have on your computer currently. Failure to do so WILL cause problems for your computer.

How to install Symantec Antivirus

  1. Download the Symantec Antivirus self-extracting archive from the [downloads page at the Helpdesk]. The installer is located [here]. Save this file to your Desktop.
  2. Double-click the symantec.exe file on your Desktop which will bring up a WinZip Self-Extractor - symantec.exe window. Click Browse, select Desktop, and then click OK. Click Unzip to extract the installation files. After the files are extracted a window will appear reporting the number of files in unzipped. Click OK on that window, and then click Close to exit.
  3. On your Desktop is a folder called symantec. Double-click on the folder to open it up, and then double-click on the Setup.exe file to start the installation.
  4. When prompted at the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Symantec Antivirus window, click Next >.
  5. Click the button marked I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next >.
  6. Click Next > to choose the Complete install.
  7. Click Install to begin copying the files.
  8. Once the files have been installed and the InstallShield Wizard Completed window is displayed, click Finish.
